P. Singh Badnore Launched Mobile App "Wildlife Rescue" To Monitor the Rescue of Wildlife

  • P. Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Union Territory Chandigarh launched a real time mobile application - "Wildlife Rescue App" for online monitoring of Wildlife rescue, reporting and release of wildlife in the wildlife sanctuaries in Chandigarh.
  • The app is an initiative of the Chandigarh's Department of Forest & Wildlife to rescue the wild animals in distress.
  • The users of the application can capture the image of the wildlife in distress and send it to the concerned rescue squad for immediate response.

Features:

  • The app provides a platform to share the information regarding injured and distressed wildlife to the concerned authorities
  • This will also share the location of the incident which will enable a quick response by the department to such scenarios. The app also features all the orders, guidelines, rules related to wildlife rescue which were uploaded by the department to provide general information to the public.

India's Longest Motorable Suspension Bridge

  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated the 725-metre-long Dobra-Chanti suspension bridge in Tehri-Garhwal district. It is the longest motorable single lane suspension bridge in India.
  • The bridge has been built over the Tehri Lake with a total cost of INR 2.96 Crore
  • The bridge will connect Pratap Nagar town with Tehri Garhwal district headquarters.
  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Trivendra Singh Rawat launched free high-speed WiFi services for all government colleges and universities in the state, the service was launched at a college in his constituency Doiwala.
  • With the launch of WiFi services, Uttarakhand is the first state in the country to provide free internet to all government colleges and universities.
  • The move is aligned under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India initiative.

Multiple projects in Varanasi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated & Laid the Foundation Stone of Multiple development projects for Varanasi in Uttarpradesh related to Agriculture, Tourism and Infrastructure.
  • He launched 16 schemes worth INR 220 Crore and highlighted the beginning of work on 14 schemes worth INR 400 crore in Varanasi.
  • The projects inaugurated include upgradation of Sarnath Light and Sound show, upgradation of Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital Ramnagar, sewerage related works, infrastructure facilities for protection, conservation of cows, multipurpose seed storehouse, Sampurnanand Stadium, Tourist Plaza at Dashashwamedh Ghat for development of Varanasi, establishment of International Rice Institute, Milk Processing Plant, Construction of Perishable Cargo Center.

The Book "Moustache" by Malayalam Author S Hareesh won the JCB Prize for Literature 2020

  • The book "Moustache" (original Malayalam title - "Meesha") authored by Malayalam writer S. Hareesh and translated to English by Jayasree Kalathil won the JCB Prize for Literature 2020 worth Rs 25 lakhs. The book was published by HarperCollins India in 2020.
  • This is the 2nd Debut novel and 2nd Malayalam Translation to Win the JCB prize for Literature. The winner was announced by Lord Bamford, Chairman of JCB in a virtual awards ceremony.
  • First Debut novel to win the JCB Prize for Literature was "The Far Field" by Madhuri Vijay in 2019.
  • First Malayalam translation to win the JCB Prize was Jasmine Days authored by Benyamin and translated by Shahnaz Habib in 2018

Sanchaman Limboo Former CM of Sikkim Passed Away at 73

  • Sanchaman Limboo, Former Chief Minister of Sikkim passed away due to prolonged illness at the Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial Hospital
  • Sanchaman Limboo, a member of Sikkim Sangram Parishad Party was the fourth Chief Minister of Sikkim who served from 17th June 1994 to 12th December 1994.
  • The central act of other backward classes was implemented in Sikkim during his term as CM.
  • The mandal commission reports in Sikkim was also implemented during his stint as CM.

2020 Indian Premier League

  • The 13th Edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) officially known as Dream11 Indian Premier League 2020 took place at the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A total of 8 teams participated in the event.
  • This is the Second time that a complete IPL Tournament is being played outside India. The previous time an entire IPL season was conducted outside of India was the 2nd Edition of IPL which was held in South Africa in 2009.
  • In 2014, the 7th Edition of the IPL the first Twenty Matches were conducted in UAE due to General Elections,
  • The IPL matches were played at 3 venues in United Arab Emirates (UAE): Dubai, Sharjah & Abu Dhabi
  • For the First time in IPL history, mid-season transfer windows were introduced. Using the mid-season transfer teams can transfer players between them. For a player to be transferred, the player should have played a maximum of 2 matches, and the player can be capped or uncapped and both Indian and International players were eligible for transfer.

Winner of 2020 IPL:

  • Mumbai Indians won their 5th IPL Title by defeating First-Time Finalists Delhi Capitals in the Final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium
  • Title Winners Mumbai Indians received INR 20 Crore as Prize Money, whereas Finalists Delhi Capital received an amount of INR 12.5 Crore
  • Trent Boult (New Zealand) of Mumbai Indians was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his spell of 3/30 in Four Overs.
  • Mumbai Indians became the Second Franchise after Chennai Super Kings to win two back-to-back Indian Premier League Titles.

  • Mumbai Indians became the first team in IPL history to win 5 Titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020) in 13 Editions.
  • Pat Cummins (Australia) of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was the most expensive player of IPL 2020. He was sold for INR 15 Crores. Piyush Chawla (India) became the most expensive capped Indian player. Chennai Super Kings bought Piyush Chawla for INR 6.75 Crores.

  • Orange Cap(Highest Run Scorer of the Season) -KL Rahul of Kings XI Punjab Runs -670 Matches - 14

  • Most Valuable Player-Jofra Archer (England) of Rajasthan Royals

  • Following his 69-ball 132 (Not Out) against Royal Challengers Bangalore, KL Rahul holds the record for Highest score for an Indian in an IPL innings.
  • Virat Kohli (India) of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with 4314 Runs leapfrogged MS Dhoni (India) of CSK to become the highest run-scorer by a captain in the history of IPL.
  • Kohli also became the First Batsman to score 5500 IPL runs and the First Indian to score 9000 T20 runs.
  • MS Dhoni became the First Player to play 200 Games in IPL. Rohit Sharma (India) of Mumbai Indians became the Second player to play 200 Games in IPL.
  • Dinesh Karthik (India) playing for KKR with 110 Catches overtook MS Dhoni (109 Catches) as the wicket-keeper with most catches in the IPL. Shikhar Dhawan became the first player in the history of IPL to record two consecutive centuries. He scored 2 consecutive centuries against CSK and Kings XI Punjab.
