1) Out of the total number of candidate showing interest, 65% were girls, but only 25% of these girls applied for the admission. Then what is the average of the number of boys who applied for admission and the number of candidates who were found to be eligible for taking admission in the engineering college?

a) 390

b) 375

c) 365

d) 369

e) None of these

2) If the number of the candidates who attended the seminar to the number of candidates who showed interest in the engineering college is 59:36 and the number of candidates who registered for the seminar but did not attend it is 240, then the number of candidates who showed interest in the seminar is approximately what per cent of the total number of candidates who registered for the seminar?

a) 55%

b) 53%

c) 50%

d) 58%

e) None of these

3) If the candidate out of the total registered 240 candidate did not attend the seminar and 920 candidates did not show interest in joining the engineering college, then how many students actually registered for the seminar?

a) 2500

b) 2600

c) 2700

d) Can’t be determined

e) None of these

4) Out of the total number of candidates who have applied for the admission, 168 girls are found to be not eligible to take admission in engineering college. How many boys are not eligible to take admission in the engineering college?

a) 160

b) 165

c) 150

d) 166

e) None of these

5) What is the ratio of the number of candidates who showed interest but did not apply for admission to the number of candidates who are found to be eligible for taking admission in the engineering college?

a) 17: 21

b) 21:8

c) 22:9

d) 22:11

e) None of these

Answers:

1) Answer: D

Girls Showing interest = 1440 x (65/100) = 936

Girls who applied for admission = 936 x (25/100) = 234

Boys who applied for admission = (45/100) × 1440 - 234

= 618-234

= 414

Eligible Candidates = (50/100) × 648 = 324

Required Average = (324 + 414)/2 = 738/2 = 369

2) Answer: A

The number of candidate who attended the seminar = 1440 x (59/36) = 40 × 59 =2360

Total number of candidate who registered = 2360 + 240 = 2600

Required percentage =   (1440/2660) × 100 = 53.38 = 58%

3) Answer: B

The number of candidates who showed interest = 1440

Total number of registered candidates = 1440 +920+ 240 = 2600

4) Answer: A

The number of candidates who applied for admission = (45/100) × 1440 =648

The number of candidates not eligible to take admission = (50/100) × 648=328

(Because 50% are eligible to take admission)

Number of boys not eligible = 328 – 168 = 160

5) Answer: C

Number of the candidate who showed interest but did not apply for admission = 100 - 45 = 55%

Now, 55% of 1400 = (55/100) × 1440 =792

Eligible candidate = 1440 x (45/100) × (50/100)  = 324

Required ratio = 792: 324

= 22:9
